About Nico Babierra & NB Studios
Editor, finisher and the person who writes this blog
I'm Geronico "Nico" Babierra, a post-production editor based in Metro Manila, Philippines. I've spent more than 15 years in edit suites, playout rooms and mastering bays, and I run NB Studios, a small post-production studio for clients in the US, Australia and Europe.
- 15+years in post-production
- 5+years in digital film mastering
- 4platforms delivered to: Netflix, Apple TV, iWantTFC, TFC
- 3continents of clients: US, Australia, Europe
Where I've worked
I started at ABS-CBN in 2010 in ingest and playout, then moved into segment producing and editing on shows including Kris TV, ASAP and Jeepney TV, where I was master editor. From 2015 to 2018 I worked for Avid in Manila as a video editor and broadcast engineer, installing, supporting and troubleshooting Media Composer and Interplay systems. I then edited lifestyle and corporate features at Chinoy TV.
Since 2021 I've been back at ABS-CBN doing digital film mastering: the last technical and creative pass before a title ships to streaming and broadcast partners, including colour, sound-mix finalisation, compliance and multi-format delivery. The full timeline is on my portfolio page.
Why this blog exists
Most software reviews are written by people who test a tool for a weekend. I write about the tools I actually cut, grade and deliver with: Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, After Effects, and the newer AI generation tools that are changing how editors work. Every post is written from the point of view of someone who has to hit a deadline and pass QC with the result.
The blog covers three things:
- NLE and software reviews: what changed, what broke, and whether it's worth upgrading.
- AI video workflows: how I use generative tools in real projects, including the failures.
- Hardware and events: the rig I edit on and what I see at industry events in Manila.

Editorial standards
- Hands-on only. I review software and gear I have used on my own projects. Examples come from my own projects wherever possible.
- Sponsorships are labelled. If a brand supported a post with product, credits or payment, the post says so near the top.
- Affiliate links are disclosed. Some posts link to tools through affiliate programmes. Those links are marked, and they never decide what I recommend.
- Corrections. Software changes quickly. If something I wrote is wrong or out of date, tell me and I'll update the post.
